The Traveler's Almanac for

August 2026

Summer · Element of Fire · Ruled by the Sun / Mercury

LUGHNASADH falls at the month's opening and the whole of August carries what it brings. The first grain cut, the first harvest, the year's first real exhale. The Sturgeon Moon rises over fields going golden at the edges. There's still so much summer left with heat at its peak. And yet, something has shifted and you can feel it in the quality of the afternoon light - the arc is beginning to come down. August holds abundance and elegy at the same time.

The Moons of August

Friday, August 28th - Sturgeon Moon (Full Moon)
Wednesday, August 12th - New Moon

The Wheel Turns

Lughnasadh - Saturday, August 1st
The first harvest festival - when the grain is cut and the season begins to turn.

The Sun Moves

August opens under Leo and on the 23rd the sun crosses into Virgo. The month is largely a Leo month, with Virgo energy arriving near the close.

What August Calls For

LUGHNASADH belongs to Lugh - sun god, master of crafts - and August rewards skills work. Learn something. Honor what you're genuinely good at. Give specific thanks for what you've actually brought into being this year, not a general thanks but a real accounting. Bread magic, grain offerings, anything involving the fruits of sustained effort. Honest reckoning: what has grown, what hasn't, what still has time.

Watch For

Lughnasadh grief is real. The emotion of the first harvest carries elegy alongside the abundance - the growing season is ending. Let yourself feel that rather than skipping past it to the next thing. It is part of the practice, not an inconvenience.
